ABOUT ME

Jan Wilke (born 1980 in Darmstadt, Germany) is a composer, organist, and artistic thinker whose work moves between tradition and modernity. His oeuvre spans choral music, organ and piano works, orchestral and chamber music, as well as scores for film and silent cinema—marked by emotional clarity, structural precision, and a distinct personal voice.

He studied music education, church music (A-level), and music theory in Mannheim and Heidelberg, followed by choral conducting at the University of Birmingham (UK) and film scoring at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe in Sofia, where he completed a Master of Fine Arts in 2023. From 2017 to 2021, he taught choral conducting at the University of Church Music Heidelberg.

Wilke is a multiple award-winning composer, receiving the Knapp Award for Choral Excellence (USA, 2014) and the First Prize in the German Choral Association’s composition competition. His works are published by Helbling Verlag and performed internationally by renowned ensembles such as the Kölner Kantorei, Konzertchor Darmstadt, and Renaissance Men (USA).

His musical language blends elements of Anglican choral tradition, minimalism, and cinematic aesthetics with emotional depth and inner clarity. In addition to liturgical and concert music, he increasingly explores abstract forms, film-related formats, and cyclical compositions.
